In Memoriam - March 10, 1940 -- September 06, 2007
SHERMAN, TX — Funeral services for Judith "Judy" Cleveland Pate were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2007 at the Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas. Rev. David A. Sharp and Rev. Scott A. Leslie officiated. Burial followed at Sherman's West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Richard Pate Jr., Clayton Brummett, Dave Pate, Rick Chron, Justin Cowan, Bill Theis, JeffreyJudy Pate Brummett, and Jonathan Brummett. Honorary pallbearers included all of her past students. Mrs. Pate passed away Thursday, September 6 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman at the age of 67.

Judy was born on March 10, 1940 in Durant, Oklahoma to the late Eddie “Sparky” and Trelby “Elzine” (Williams) Cleveland. She graduated from Durant High School in 1958 and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University for two years to become a teacher’s assistant. On November 19, 1960 Judy married Richard Pate in Durant, Oklahoma. She began her career in education in 1970 in Georgetown, Texas.

In 1976 she began teaching at Wakefield Elementary School in Sherman. She retired in 2001. Judy will always be remembered for her delicious cakes and 'world famous' desserts and for her love of people. She never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. She was a member of the Crossroads Presbyterian Church in the Desert Community and was a member of the N.R.A.

Mrs. Pate is survived by her husband Richard Pate, Sr. of Sherman; one son, Richard, Jr. of Sherman; one daughter, Marianne Brummett and her husband Doug of Blue Ridge; two grandchildren, Clayton and Paige Brummett of Blue Ridge; one brother, Jerry Cleveland of Denison; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Cleveland.
